Welcome back to the new school year! In the big picture, these are important transitional times... the economy is down and many people are struggling with daily life, but the winds of change are blowing. President Obama is calling for schools to teach thinking skills to children and to do more to prepare them for the 21st century, and the need for this becomes more and more evident as the pace of technology continues to increase and to change all our lives.

We have had a busy summer here at ThinkFun! We've been working with Math Education professors to learn more about Problem Solving Theory, and we're currently immersed in the development of a web-based Flash program to present our Super Solver system of problem solving! This will be ready for testing later this fall, and we look forward to sharing it with you.

The more we learn, the more we see that the real key to teaching problem solving starts with helping children articulate their own thinking process. Through research and testing, we've found that students become more aware of their thinking when they can focus on particular games that draw out specific skills. This new and more targeted approach is the basis of the dynamic online program we are developing.

Many of you first met us at a conference where we were showcasing our Game Club Classroom Sets. Since we first unveiled the Game Club program, we have sold thousands of these Sets, and thanks to educators like you, tens of thousands of students have had the opportunity to practice reasoning skills and talk about thinking strategies all while playing games they love! This is great! But don't take it from me... check out these stories shared by teachers who have implemented the Game Club program in their classrooms!

While there is no question these Sets are fantastic teaching tools, the one downside has been that they are expensive... and the cost to make them keeps going up. In these economic times, the Game Club Sets are tough to afford, and we are making adjustments in our programs to account for this.
